Rental Hot Tub Checkout Instructions Guests Will Actually Follow
Most hosts write a welcome message for the hot tub and forget the other end of the stay. Checkout is where sand, sunscreen, and wet towels turn into a Saturday-afternoon cleanup. A short, clear checkout note protects your next guest’s experience and your 5-star reviews.
Pair it with a reliable hot tub maintenance schedule so the spa is tested and balanced before the next arrival.
Keep It to Five Steps
Guests skim. A card with five steps gets read; a page of rules does not. A workable list for beach rentals in Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Oak Island:
- Rinse sand and sunscreen off at the outdoor shower before the last soak.
- Close and latch the cover so it seals fully.
- Leave the temperature and jets as they are.
- Do not add any chemicals, even if the water looks cloudy.
- Text us if anything looks, smells, or sounds wrong.
Why Each Step Matters on the Coast
Sand clogs filters and scratches the shell. Sunscreen and tanning oil create the scum line and use up sanitizer fast. An unlatched cover lets in pine debris, rain, and the no-see-ums that come out at dusk. Guests who add their own shock “to help” can throw off pH and leave skin irritation for the next family.
Place Instructions Where Guests Look
Put the card inside the cover lifter or on a waterproof sign by the spa, and repeat it in your digital guidebook. A laminated card survives salt air; paper curls within a week. Add one line to your checkout message the morning of departure.
Make Reporting Easy
Give a text number for hot tub problems. A guest who reports a cloudy spa at 8 a.m. saves you from a bad review at noon. Thank them when they do, and fix it fast.
What You Do After Checkout
Even with great guests, test the water at each turnover: sanitizer, pH, and alkalinity. Rinse or swap the filter on a rotation, wipe the waterline, and check the cover. Document with a photo of the test strip so you can show proof of service if a guest ever complains.
Adjust for Season
In summer weekends, add a rinse-off reminder because sand is heaviest. In winter, remind guests to close the cover right away to hold heat and cut your energy bill.
