Preparing Your Hot Tub for Hurricane Season in Coastal NC

By Bubble Balance · June 5, 2026

From June through November, every coastal hot tub owner should have a storm plan. A little preparation protects your spa and makes restart far easier.

Before a storm

  • Don’t drain it for a typical storm — a full tub is heavy and stays put. Drain only for a major storm with evacuation, and never leave it bone-dry in a way that damages seals.
  • Balance and shock the water so it stays clean if the power’s out for days.
  • Secure the cover with straps or wind clips, or remove and store it inside.
  • Cut power at the breaker before flooding or high winds.
  • Clear loose items nearby that could become projectiles.

After the storm

Don’t restore power until the equipment is dry and inspected. Then balance the water, run the filter, and watch for issues. If anything seems off with the pump or heater, get a diagnostic before running it hard.

We help Cape Fear owners prep and restart their spas around storm season — reach out if you’d like a hand.
